April 26th
The officers and
members of PHVFC would like to send our
condolences to Bea Shoemaker and her family in
their time of need.

FIRE IN
AMBERSON
April 25th
Engine Company 11 along
with the remainder of the 12-03B Box was alerted
at 1733 hrs for the reported furnace room on
fire at 18728 Store Lane in Fannett Twp. Deputy
Chief 12 arrived on scene with a working
fire with exposures. Engine 11-2 arrived as the
third in Engine and was assigned to check for
extension in the 2 other structures. After
performing those duties the crew assisted with
overhaul operations. Engine 11-1 arrived on
scene staged a short time before handling a
transfer to Co 12 from the scene of the fire.
Both Engines from "The Hall" cleared at approx.
1835 hrs. Also a thanks goes out to the
Franklins for covering "The Hall".

MVA IN
HORSE VALLEY
April 17th
E11-1,E11-2,E21-2, and A11-8
responded to Upper Strausburg Rd in
between Lower and Upper Horse Valley
Rd for an MVA. Chief 11 arrived on
scene to find one auto on it's roof
with no occupants around the car.
Co.11 crews took care of hazards
while the crew from E21-2 checked
the area with the TIC. Units cleared
the scene at 0550 hrs.

TREE AND
WIRES
April 16th
Engine 11-2 and
Brush 11 responded to Keefer Rd just outside the
Bear Valley Park for a tree and wires fire.
Chief 11 and Engine 11-2 arrived on scene and
found a tree on wires with a portion of the tree
on fire. Chief 11 made notification to the power
Co. 11 available at 1913 hrs.

TRANSFER
TO THE FRANKLINS
March 21st
|
Engine
11-2 responded on a transfer to
Station 4 at 1855 hrs while they
were working a first due house fire.
No incidents were handled Engine
11-2 cleared at 2222 hrs.
While
Engine 11-2 was on the transfer
Utility 11 responded to Wye rd for a
possible cardiac arrest. The utility
arrived on scene and assist the crew
from A11-9.

AFA IN
SCOTLAND
March 18th
|
At
1405 hrs Engine Co. 11 was alerted
to fill box 44-02A
3583 Scotland Rd for an AFA. Engine
11-2 arrived on scene and stage for
a short time until being placed in
service by duty 44 at 1423 hrs.

ORRSTOWN
RD HOUSE FIRE
March 15th
At 0429 hrs Engine
11-2 responded to 1566 Orrstown Rd for a house
fire. Engine 11-2 arrived on scene with a crew
of 4 and was assigned RIT. Engine 11-2's crew
set up for RIT until placed in service by
command 15 at 0537 hrs.

MORNING
TRANSFERS
March 10th
This morning E11-2
responded at 0839 to Co. 18 for an Engine
Transfer. Right as completing the transfer to
Co. 18 headquarters came back and asked us to
transfer to Fulton Co. 56. While at the 56 house
no incidents were handled. E11-2 cleared from
Co. 56 at 1330 hrs.
While E11-2 was on
these transfers A11-9 handled a EMS transfer to
Co.1 (Headquarters Station).

MVA WITH
FLY OUT
March 8th
Co.11 along with
Cumberland Medic 84 were dispatched to the 8800
block of Roxbury Rd for a MVA with rollover. A/C
11 (Sikes) arrived on scene at the 10400 Block
of Roxbury Rd and found a pickup truck that
rolled over and ended back on it's wheels with
the driver of the truck sitting in the road.
E11-2 arrived on scene with 6 personnel and
assisted A11-9 with pt. packaging while the
remainder of the crew took care of securing the
vehicle. Air Medical was requested to the scene.
E11-1 with a crew of 3 took care of the landing
zone at the Lurgan Elementary School. Units
remained on the scene for a short while longer
and assisted PSP and the Stouffer's Towing with
lighting before going available at 2247 hrs.

WARM WEATHER BRINGS BRUSH
FIRES
March 8th
Today units were
dispatched to 9234 Newburg rd for a brush fire.
Units arrived on scene to find about 1/4 of an
acre involved. Brush 11 arrived on scene and
pulled the booster reel and the 1 1/2" line and
assisted crews from Co. 51 with extinguishment
and mop up before clearing a short time later.

2 RUN SUNDAY
March 7th
Today around 1025
hrs Co.11 was dispatched to 11328 Forge Hill Rd
for an Emergency Flooding Condition. Duty 11
(Sgt. Courtney) arrived on scene to find water
gushing out from the ground running into 2
houses. Utility 11 arrived on scene to assist in
securing utilities and after the water authority
shut the water line down the portable pumps were
utilized to get the water out of the basements.
Units cleared from this incident at 1147 hrs.
While the utility
was still on the scene of the flooding Co.11 was
dispatched to 11420 Cumberland Hwy for a MVA.
A/C 11 (Sikes) arrived on scene to find 2
vehicles with 3 patients. The Engine co. arrived
and took care of hazards and assisted EMS with
pt. packaging before clearing the scene at 1235
hrs.

THURSDAY
NIGHT DRILL ON AMKUS TOOLS
March 4th
Tonight members
spent the day refreshing themselves on the set
up and operation of our Amkus rescue tools.
After a short time in the training room members
went out for some hands on drills.

REKINDLE
ON THE BUILDING FIRE
February 23rd
Today around 1100
hrs E11-2 along with Cumberland Truck 53
responded non-emergency to 5042 Overcash Ave for
a rekindle. Units arrived on scene to assist the
excavators with hitting hot spots as they pulled
the debris out. Command 11 also requested a
single engine from station 4 and truck 42 to the
scene for assistance. Units were in service at
approx 1700.

LZ OPS
February 22nd
|
At
1633 hrs Engine Co.11 was dispatched
to establish a landing zone for
A11-8 which was in route to the
station with a burn patient. E11-2
established the LZ for Life-Net 8-1
in the parking lot of the social
hall side of the station. Co. 11
units were in service at 1716 hrs.

LZ SAFETY CLASS
February 20th
|
Today
members of PHVFC participated in a
LZ safety class hosted by Life Net.
We would like to thank Eric Warren
the instructor and the crew of Life
Net 8-1 for coming out and hosting
this class.

FRANKLIN
FROM ADAMS
February 21st
|
After
clearing from the rekindle E11-2 was
alerted to transfer to Adams County
Co. 8 (Aspers) while they operated
on a mobile home fire. While on the
transfer E11-2 handled a MVA in
Menallen Township 1900 Carlisle Rd
Adams box 7-1. E11-2 arrived on
scene and was placed in service by
Adams Chief 7. After clearing from
the accident E11-2 returned to Co.8
until being released at 2353.

AMBERSON RD HOUSE FIRE
February 15th
Today around 1400
hrs units were dispatched to 18549 Amberson Rd
for a house fire. Co.12 units arrived on scene
to find smoke showing from the second floor of
the A & B corner of the house. E11-2 arrived on
scene and part of the crew went in and assisted
with fire attack while the other part of the
crew threw ladders around the house. Chief 11
was given operations and Co.11 units
remained on scene for a short time longer to
assist with overhaul before being released by
command 12.

ANOTHER WORKING FIRE
February 14th
Tonight just
before 2330 hrs box 251-01 was sounded for a
house fire. Co. 51 units arrived on scene and
found a 1 story home with heavy fire. E11-2
arrived on scene right behind CCE151 and pulled
an attack line and took it to the C & D corner
of the house. E11-1 arrived on scene and
supplied E11-2 while the crew went and assisted
with fire attack on the C & D corner. After the
bulk of the fire was knocked crews assisted with
an extensive overhaul before clearing at approx
0200 hrs.

2009 ANNUAL AWARDS
BANQUET
February 13th
Tonight was
PHVFC's annual awards banquet. The night
started out with President Creamer with his
opening remarks and introducing all our special
guests for the night. Then the meal was served
which was prepared and served by the
Newburg-Hopewell Fire Company. President
Creamer, Chief Denham, and Dep. Ambulance Chief Wadel all handed out their awards for the year
of 2009. At this time Dep. Chief Reed and State
Representative Kauffman handed out 3 special
awards to citizens for the assistance they
provided during our water rescue incident
earlier in the year. The awards portion was
concluded with President Creamer giving his
closing remarks. Then for the remainder of the
evening Sound Berrier Entertainment provided
music.

ALL NIGHT BUILDING FIRE
February 12th
At around midnight
units were alerted to Letterkenny Army Depot
building # 44 for a building fire. E13-2 arrived
on scene and found approx a 150'x500' building
with fire through the roof. The WFD and the
second alarm assignment was quickly dispatched.
Throughout the incident Command 11 (Capt. Myers)
requested several more ladder trucks to the
scene to assist with extinguishment. While on
scene crews had to monitor the roofs of the next
2 building for little spot fires. Throughout the
incident a tanker shuttle was established
because the hydrant system could not keep up
with the amount of water that was being
utilized. Once the fire was out there was an
extensive overhaul operations which Cumberland
County Foam Team 200 was requested to the scene
to assist with foam operations. All units were
clear by 0830 hrs. Thanks to all the
organizations who helped with or throughout the
incident. Also a thanks goes out to Newburg
Hopewell for covering "The Hall" while our units
were on the scene of the fire.

FIRE
COMPANY OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE COMMUNITY
February 10th-11th
As a major snow
storm was hitting the area the PHVFC along with
the assistance of the Red Cross opened it's
doors to the community as a emergency shelter.
Throughout the snowstorm PHVFC had several crews
out working to try and assist people who got
caught in the snow drifts and couldn't make it
any further. While those crews were out rescuing
people there were more PHVFC members back
cooking food for the citizens of the community
who were staying at the firehouse. We also had
supplies delivered by the National Guard along
with the Franklin County EMA. A BIG THANKS goes
out to any other agencies who assisted in any
way during this major incident.

FIRST DUE VEHICLE FIRE
February 9th
At 0851
hrs Company 11 was dispatched for an auto fire
at 5682 Roxbury Rd. Units arrived on scene to
find a pick-up truck on fire. The crew from
E11-2 pulled a cross lay and quickly
extinguished the fire. Units were on scene for a
short time longer to finish mopping up. The
11-03 box was placed in service at 1043 hrs

SHED FIRE
February 5th
|
Engine 11-2
responded at 1425 hrs to 3494
Roxbury Rd for a shed fire. Co. 15
units arrived on scene and found a
small shed on fire. Engine 11-2 was
placed in service a short time later
by command 15.

THURSDAY NIGHT TRAINING
January 28th
Members spent the
night practicing on advancing hand lines and and
repacking them. It was a good refresher for all
those who attended.

SPEEDY RECOVERY
January 28th
The officers and
members of PHVFC would like to wish Bob Musgrave
a quick and speedy recovery.

ANOTHER
FORGE HILL ROAD MVA
January 26th
Company 11 along
with medic 84 were dispatched at approx. 1530
hrs to the 12000 block of Forge Hill Rd for an MVA,
auto into a utility pole. A11-9 arrived on scene
to find a vehicle that had ran off the roadway,
snapped a utility pole off, and ended up
against 2 trees. E11-2 and E11-1 arrived on scene
and began stabilization. Crews then worked
on removing the drivers side doors to package
and extricate the
lone patient. Command 11 then
requested air medical to be put in the air.
Cumberland Engine 251 handled the LZ at the
Roxbury Holiness Camp. 2 additional BLS units
were requested to the scene to take in 3
additional patients from a second vehicle. All units were in service
at approx 1730 hrs. Thanks to Cumberland engine
251 for covering the Hall after the helicopter
lifted off.
Units on Scene:
E11-1, E11-2, A11-9, CM84, CA173, A12-9, and
CCE251 LZ and transfer, Life Net 8-1.

ANOTHER
MVA
January 20th
At approx 2130 hrs
Company 11 was dispatched to the 9400 Blk of
Cumberland Hwy for a vehicle accident with one
overturned. A11-9 arrived on scene to find a
vehicle on its roof with the occupant
self-extricated. The engine arrived on scene to
assist EMS and secured the hazards. The engine
remained on scene until the arrival of the
towing service. The box was placed in service at
approx 2240.

TRANSFER TO
McCONNELLSBURG
January 16th
This evening 6
members of PHVFC went over to Fulton County to
cover E156 and Br156 from 1700 until 2400 while
their members enjoyed the night off for their
annual awards banquet. Unfortunately no calls
were ran but crews were treated to a good meal
at the Banquet. Thanks to Co. 56 for having us
over.

FORGE
HILL ROAD MVA
January 14th
Company 11 along
with medic 84 were dispatched at approx. 2300
hrs to the 12000 block of Forge Hill Rd for a
MVA one vehicle on its side. A/C 11 and A11-9
arrived on scene to find a vehicle on its side
with the occupant self-extricated. The engine
arrived on scene and assisted EMS with packaging
the patient and took care of all the hazards.
EMS transported one class 3 patient to
Chambersburg Hospital. A/C 11 placed the box in
service at 0020 hrs.

BUSY
START TO THE NEW YEAR
January 2nd
The first run of
the New Year came in at 0011 for an AFA at 5121
Innovation Way box area 11-13. Co. 11 and E13-2
arrived on scene and found that a sprinkler head
on the outside of the building was busted off.
After the problem was fixed Chief 11 placed the
box in service at 0042.
The second run of
the day came at approx 1100 for a MVA at 6531
Upper Strasburg Rd which is right at the
intersection in Pleasant Hall. EMS took care of
patient refusals and the Engine took care of
hazards before clearing at approx. 1130.
The last call of
the evening came in at about 1800 when E11-2 was
special requested to transfer to Station 4.
While there no calls were handled. E11-2 cleared
at 1926.
